CHA Homeowners Association vs Clubs

What's the Difference?

Many people in Colington Harbour get confused about the difference between the Homeowner's Association and the Yacht and Racquet Club. Some people assume that simply living in the neighborhood entitles them to use of the clubhouse, pool, and tennis courts. However, the very low assessments we pay on our property in this neighborhood will increase to include the cost of the upkeep and maintenance of the recreational facilities. So...to make it fair to people who live in the neighborhood but have no use for the recreational amenities, we offer membership in the Yacht and Racquet Club.

For a $100 initiation fee and a very low $200 a year family membership, homeowners can enjoy all of the recreational facilities the Club maintains. That includes the pool, tennis courts, and clubhouse -- for scheduled socials and a discount on renting the clubhouse for other functions.
Although the Club's name includes the word Yacht, there is no boating aspect to the Club. The Colington Yacht Club is a private organization separate from the Association and the Club and is open to members outside the Harbour as well.

So to summarize:

Homeowner's Association: automatic membership for owning property in the Harbour with required assessments paid yearly on each lot owned.

Yacht and Racquet Club: optional membership for property owners with annual dues.

Colington Yacht Club: optional membership for anyone wishing to take part in boating activities.
So if you've ever wondered? Now you know.
