While in Knoxville, she was involved in her neighborhood swim club. After moving to Colington Harbour, she became interested in community activities and decided to run for the Board of Directors in 2003. She was elected and served as vice-president for two years. Prior to moving to the Outer Banks I have lived in Richmond, VA where I grew up, Martinsville, VA and Greensboro, NC. My activities with the CHY&R Club have involved tennis, use of the pool and attendance at social functions. I am currently serving my second term on the Club's Board of Directors and as Secretary of the Club.My working career was mostly spent employed by the corporate engineering department of a large manufacturing corporation. I retired after 31 years of service as the department head.In the past I have served on the Board of Directors of a community recreation association as Building and Grounds Director and on the Tennis, Social and Swim Team Parents Committees. Rick     and I own and operate Outer Banks Landscaping and Charlene's Grill, Deli & Groceries on Colington rd. Together Rick and I have donated countless hours beautifying the sound side park, operating the fuel dock for 8 years, assisting at the pool, running the Wednesday night cookouts, and more! In 2004, we won the president's Award, and I stepped in gladly when asked to be a board member that same year. In June of 2005, I was elected to serve on the Board and currently serve as CHA Liaison to the CHY & RC.
